Glaucodot (classic crystal) (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of the classic Glaucodots from the famous locality at Hakansboda, Sweden. This locality dates back the 15th Century, and has produced the world's finest Cobaltite and Glaucodot specimens which are chemically very similar. Good Glaucodot crystals are hard enough to find, but a crystal with such sharp, well-formed faces is a real treat. The crystal has very well-defined, sharp, lustrous faces on all sides with a metallic silvery hue. A lot of Glaucodots from this locality have a matte luster and "dingy" looking faces, but this one is brighter and fine quality. The habit is reminiscent of Arsenopyrite. The crystal is not 100% complete, as there are two small contacts on two corners, but it's nearly a complete "floater", and a fine example of this old material from a classic locale. Certainly hard to find and desirable in today's market. Ex Rich Kosnar Collection (1946-2007). Rich was a very well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, and the namesake for the phosphate species, Kosnarite.
