Item Description

MINDAT does list goethite for the famous mines at Naica, but has no photograhic examples. Rather, this striking and sculptural piece resembles similar goethite pseudomorphs from the famous mines at Santa Eulalia. Highly lustrous black goethite botryoids have pseudomorphed blocky gypsum crystals are the crest and casts (epimorphs) of more tabular gypsum crystals are dramatically evident at the base. Scattered clusters of glassy calcite rhombs are a classic accent. This fine two-sided piece has aesthetic and artistic form. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased in 1967, when these where coming out.
