Item Description

Exceptional pseudomorph of silvery-black Goethite replacing Pyrite, all on a bed of small Dolomite crystals. The form of the pseudomorphed pyritohedrons, up to 7 mm, has remained incredibly sharp, and these Goethites are extremely aesthetic as they sit as individuals and a cluster on the underlying Dolomite. This is among the best, if not the best, of this style of Goethite pseudomorph I have seen from here. Previously in the Miller collection from the 1800’s, after which it went to James B. Cone and the Wadsworth Atheneaum, and then to the Loomis Chaffee School (this label style is known to have that history). From the collection of East Coast collector, George Elling, specializing in historic minerals of the East Coast and minerals from the development of old European mineralogy.
