Item Description
The Gold specimens from the Eagle's Nest Mine in Placer County, California are some of the finest examples of crystallized Gold ever found. They are remarkable for their strong color, beautiful formations, and above all else, the crystals. This locality is actually part of the De Maria Mine, and the entry on mindat.org mentions that, "Eagle's Nest specimens are from the upper levels of the De Maria property and should be labelled Eagle's Nest as that was the published locality". This piece is a gorgeous thumbnail featuring rich glowing yellow metallic Gold crystals with varying habits ( can see dodecahedrons, flattened octahedrons and one tetrahexahedron under the microscope), free of matrix. The piece is essentially a complete "floater", as it's crystallized on all sides with no damage or point of attachment that I can find. The strong color of the crystals really stands out, and the piece looks beautiful up close when viewed with a loupe. A choice thumbnail example of this classic world-class material. Specimen weight is 3.46 grams.
