Item Description

The Camp Bird mine is one of the most classic San Juan Mountain localities, and was a famous gold mine from 1896-1990. However, gold specimens are VERY RARE from the Camp Bird! Most collector specimens are calcite, quartz, sulfides or scheelite. This slabbed quartz vein is richly peppered with bright gold microcrystals. The gold is visible on the unsawed backside. Very rich ore! Seldom preserved. Too valuable! Older material. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. His collection recently became available to us through his family.
