Item Description

An historic and interesting wire Gold specimen dating back to the late 19th Century. The piece features dozens of thin, almost fibrous, "herringbone"-esque wires of Native Gold on brecciated white/grey Quartz matrix. The piece originally came from the collection of Warren Prosser, and his hand-written label still remains on the base of the specimen. Eventually, the piece came to the collection of Richard Kosnar, and his collection label accompanies the specimen. The mine apparently was described by Jack Benham in the 1980 book "Camp Bird and the Revenue". One of the very few wire Gold specimens from Ouray that I have seen, and valued at $1200 for the pedigree, rare crystal habit, and historic value.
