Item Description

The Lake City District in Colorado was a significant source of Gold and Silver dating back to the 1880s. This piece is from one of the premier localities in the district, the Golden Wonder Mine. It is a sliced / sawn section of the vein showing fairly rich patches of sparkling metallic Native Gold associated with grey Petzite in host rock matrix. It's incredibly difficutl to obtain any specimens from this mine, so if you collect native elements or minerals of Colorado, don't miss out on this one. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
