Item Description

The Black Cloud Mine in Leadville, Colorado produced a good number of fine quality sulfide specimens in its day, but it was also the source of some classic golden colored Barytes, arguably the finest from any locality in Colorado. This is an attractive large miniature / small cabinet specimen featuring a prominent, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, rich golden colored Baryte crystal measuring 1.7 cm, along with several additional Barytes (including some lovely micro crystals) sitting atop grey Quartz matrix, which is said to have a coating of Galena to create the unusual color. The main Baryte is doubly-terminated and looks to be damage free as far as I can tell with the naked eye. Minor Pyrite is present on the specimen as well. This specimen was mined in the 1970s, and comes from the collection of Brian Kosnar, with an old label from The Rock Hut rock shop in Leadville.
