Item Description

Grandidierite is a famous old species first found in Madagascar in 1902. It was named after the famous French naturalist and explorer, Alfred Grandidier. This piece is from the original discovery of the species at Cap Andrahomana! It has the classic characteristic rich greenish-blue color, and shows a bit of translucency when backlit. The piece is is a simple prismatic crystal, but it's hard to tell if it's actually terminated, or if it has a rough contact termination, or if it's contacted / broken. Gem grade Grandidierite has now reached a lofty status among the most valuable and highly sought after gems in the world, and good specimens are virtually non-existent on the market. Do not miss out on a chance to own a piece of this highly desirable eye-catching material dating back over 100 years. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7157). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
