Graphite (unique form)

Graphite is probably not the first species that people think of when it comes to minerals from Sri Lanka. With all the beautiful gem material found in this little island nation, it's funny to think there are deposits of Graphite, some of which are fine quality examples of the species. This piece is a rich silvery-grey metallic hue, with a slick almost "greasy" feel on the surface, but my favorite aspect is the actual form of the piece with an almost "fibrous" / semi-striated growth, reminiscent of some kind serpentine and amphibole species, but metallic! For a piece of native carbon, it's a much more enticing and interesting example than most you'll find on the market, which are typically just nuggets or lumps without any real discernible features. This one is certainly different and really attractive in person. If you collect native elements, be sure to pick this one up, as it's just plain pretty for what it is.
