Green Quartz ("Grapes")

Here we have a lovely, colorful and eye-catching specimen of these fairly new and unique "Grape Agate" or "Grape Chalcedony" specimens from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Truth be told, these specimens should be labeled as Quartz, as they have been analyzed by Dr. George Rossman at CalTech and determined to be amethyst. Obviously these specimens got their nickname due to the fact that they genuinely resemble bunches of grapes. Although this material is new to the market, very little seems to be out there now, and perhaps it is drying up. If you missed out on these when they first came out, this is a great opportunity to pick up a really attractive specimen for a great piece. This piece is loaded with dozens of eye-catching, translucent, semi-resinous "balls" or spheroids measuring up to about 3 mm which are tightly intergrown, on a bit of matrix. The color is a rich green hue which is caused by Celadonite inclusions. The quality is fantastic on the display side as it's essentially damage free. Quartz is abundant around the world, but these pieces are truly special and unlike anything we've seen. This small cabinet sized specimen would make a very nice addition to any Quartz suite.
