Item Description

A very rarely seen example of gemmy green Sphalerite from the Diabase quarry at Hartenrod. This is the first piece of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions. It's not terribly common to find gemmy Sphalerite in a quarry like this, especially with this color. The piece is essentially a reference specimen as it's cleaved and not completely crystallized, but the brilliant green color and above average gemminess make it an interesting curiosity specimen for any collector of sulfides or German minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10377). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
