Item Description

Gem quality Spodumene is truly only found in a handful of world localities. Most people are familiar with Kunzite, the pink variety of Spodumene, but colors like green and blue are much less common when it comes to Spodumene. Often any green Spodumene gem is labeled at being "Hiddenite", but according to a thread on mindat.org (https://www.mindat.org/mesg-253964.html), "there are disagreements between different people as to what now constitutes a "hiddenite", some claiming it must contain some chromium, others claiming it must be a particular shade of green, others claiming both of the above and that it must be from the Hiddenite area of North Carolina. Colorless or yellow spodumene should not be referred to as Hiddenite." We have chosen to call this stone a green Spodumene (as well as "Hiddenite"), but please know it was not analyzed from chromium content, nor is it from Hiddenite, North Carolina. Spodumene is not an easy gemstone to cut due to the perfect cleavage planes and somewhat brittle nature of the material. Well cut gems are greatly appreciated due to this characteristic. This is an attractive green Spodumene gem with a soft blue-green color. It's virtually eye clean and has a lovely "emerald" cut. Despite the amount of gem Spodumene available on today's market there are truly only two major sources in the world that produce gem quality crystals for cutting or cabbing (Brazil and Afghanistan).
