Item Description

A lovely miniature sized specimen from the famous Copper Mountain locality in Alaska featuring sharp, well-formed, greenish-brown colored dodecahedral crystals of Grossular Garnet measuring up to 5 mm. The piece is in good condition overall, though a few crystals are contacted. If you collect worldwide Garnets or minerals of the United States, this is a fairly hard to find display specimen of this classic old material dating back several decades. I found one account that the Smithsonian sponsored an expedition to this locality in the 1930s, and this piece could have been from that outing. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7743). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
