Item Description

This is a wonderful and rich phosphate association specimen from the Taquaral region in Brazil. For you rarities and phosphate collectors out there, you know that this area is well-known for producing some of the best quality crystals of various phosphate species like Eosphorite / Childrenite, and even very rare minerals like Kosnarite, Zanazziite, Guimarãesite, Greifensteinite. This specimen comes to us from the great Brazilian mineral dealer, Luiz Menezes, which states that it features Guimarãesite / Greifensteinite / Zanazziite associated with Eosphorite. The green radial "balls" on the specimen are not identifiable visually, so that's why all three species are listed, because it's very possible that all three are present, depending upon the analysis. Essentially, each species carries a different cation (zinc, magnesium and iron respectively), and it's my understanding that there is enough variance that you can't label the entire specimen as containing one species. The "balls" measure up to 4 mm and are associated with good sized, "sword"-shaped prismatic crystals of golden-brown Eosphorite, which measure up to a full 1.5 cm. The matrix is a cream colored blocky crystal of Microcline, with minor bladed Albite. VERY little damage, only a few small imperfections can be seen. It's quite rare to find a full-sized cabinet display piece of this material, especially one with such a rich coverage of crystals in larger than average size. Certainly one of the best that we've had to offer in the auctions. Priced in the inventory at $1,700.
