Item Description

A VERY rarely seen specimen of a radial "spray" or "flower"-shaped group of very gemmy, sharp, lustrous, prismatic Gypsum (var: Selenite) crystals. The label refers to the piece as a "rose", which is certainly fitting. I don't think I've seen another specimen of this specific type of Gypsum from this locality, and for the most part this style of Gypsum is rare in general. Looking closely, I would say this piece is nearly a complete "floater" as it's virtually crystallized all the way around and outside of a two minor spots, I can't find any real damage. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11616). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
