Item Description

According to wikipedia, "The Wieliczka Salt Mine, located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, lies within the Krakuw metropolitan area. The mine continuously produced table salt from the 13th century until 2007 as one of the world's oldest operating salt mines, for most of this time span being a part of the undertaking ?upy krakowskie. It is believed to be the world's 14th-oldest company". This locality is actually a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. Halite specimens are not terribly easy to obtain from Wieliczka, but here we have a beautiful orange-pink columnar specimen of Halite with fairly well-formed faces considering the size. It's, thick, blocky and looks beautiful when backlit. Not often does one have the chance to pick up a nice Halite from Wieliczka, so don't miss out on this one!
