Item Description

Some of the finest known crystals of rare zeolite species Harmotome are found in the Strontian area of Scotland. This old mining district near the west coast of the country is actually the type locality for two species that bear the element strontium, which was subsequently named after the region. This attractive miniature features many superbly well-crystallized examples of Harmotome measuring up to 4 mm which glassy, sharp faces and a stark white hue sitting on grey to golden colored Calcite matrix. Some of the smaller Harmotomes are actually glassy and jewel-like, showing excellent internal gemminess. A wonderful representation of these beautiful old classics. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
