Item Description

Here we have a wonderful association specimen of Hausmannite with Gaudefroyite from the N'Chwaning Mines in South Africa. Hausmannite is a classic manganese oxide species, and Gaudefroyite is an extremely rare calcium manganese borate that is rarely seen in fine crystals. The best examples of Gaudefroyite are found in the Kalahari Manganese Field. This specimen features many "pagoda"-esque, dark grey-black Hausmannite crystals measuring up to 9 mm across, which are sitting on sharp AND lustrous, prismatic black crystals of Gaudefroyite measuring up to 2.1 cm long on matrix. I can see a tiny bit of dark orange-red color Andradite Garnet for a nice touch. Very little damage, and hard to find on the market now. A good piece for any rarities collector, a fan of South African minerals, or manganese-bearing minerals. Priced at $950 in the inventory.
