Item Description

This piece comes to us from an old East Coast collection, and comes with an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address, it dates to 1946-1957. Typically people associated the sodium calcium silicate (with an sulfate anion) Hauyne with a rich vibrant blue hue. This piece however features green crystalline to crystallized masses of Hauyne from the famous Monte Somma locality at Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Patches of sea-green Hauyne can clearly be seen in several areas, which are mixed in Biotite schist. I've honestly never seen a green specimen of Huayne from this locality, and it certainly would make a nice addition to a suite of Italian minerals or would make a nice piece for research on the interesting Sodalite group of minerals.
