Item Description

Numerous localities in the famous Laach Lake Volcanic Complex area produce very fine Hauyne specimens, a Sodalite Group species. Famous Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan is actually Hauyne. The vesicular pumice matrix is richly peppered on all sides with tiny gemmy, beautiful rich blue Hauyne crystals and Hauyne rims surrounding vugs. The matrix also hosts numerous complementary contrasting glassy Sanidine crystals, a Feldspar Group species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2243 and acquired from Lindemann in Hamburg in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Classic combination material from the volcanic Eifel Mountains.
