Item Description

A classic specimen from the famous pegmatites around the Lake George area. These deposits are best known for their Amazonite specimens, but there are a lot of other associations and interesting generations of deposition that intrigue collectors. This piece features a layer of dark reddish-black Hematite which has completely covered the underlying Quartz and Microcline matrix. You can see the sharp outlines of the Quartz and Feldspar crystals rather well as they layer of Hematite is extremely thin. The piece also features a beautiful "spray" of Goethite near the center. It should be noted that this mineral was named after the famous German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and the correct pronunciation of the species is GER-tite (with a hard "g" like gold). A lovely association specimen of this classic material from Colorado.
