Item Description

A wonderful, showy old-time display specimen that dates back to the 1800s from this historic locality off the northwest coast of Italy. The piece features beautiful, very sharp, highly lustrous, iridescent silvery Hematite crystals measuring up t o 1.0 cm sitting on massive Hematite matrix. Minor Quartz crystals can be seen on the piece, but it's the Hematites that matter here. The piece is not completely undamaged, as there are some contacts here and there, but there are still some pristine eye-catching crystals nestled in the center. For the pedigree, it's more valuable than the specimens itself (the whole being more than the sum of its parts). Hard to find and really eye-catching! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11823), but accompanied by a copule old labels: One from the collection of A. Berger of Vienna (who states it originally came from a Professor Pohl in Vienna), and a second hand-written label with no collection attributed. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive old-timer from this famous island locality. Valued at $1500.
