Hematite incl. in Calcite (rare - old) ex Sir R. Ferguson (1769-1840)

A RARE, OLD-TIME calcite with inclusions from Bohemia. Single orange-red hematite crystals are preferentially included near the terminations of the glassy nailhead calcite rhombs. The inclusions, iron oxide tinting and associated pyrite add much character to very interesting and rare old-timer from the Sir Robert Ferguson Collection (1769-1840). He was a member of Parliament and the landed nobility from Fife, Scotland (he had stopped collecting by 1810 AS A RESULT OF A DIVORCE SETTLEMENT INVOLVING LORD ELGIN, OF THE MARBLES FAME!). A RARE and desirable antique. Probably from the ancient mines at Jachymov in the Erzgebirge.
