Item Description

Some of the most iconic examples of Hematite are those from Elba. For a species that is fairly widespread around the planet, it's a big deal when a locality is well known for its Hematite specimens. This miniature sized display piece features many sharp, well-formed, metallic, splendent, silvery-grey colored modified hexagonal crystals of Hematite measuring up to 1.7 cm intergrown to form a showy overall specimen free of matrix. The main Hematite crystals are all in very good condition, but you can see the lower portion of the display side of the piece is contacted. I really love the way the crystals are separated / evident and discernible, and not indistinctly intergrown like so many we've seen from this locality. This is a really attractive Hematite miniature, which would make a nice addition to any suite of Italian minerals, worldwide Hematites or specifically minerals from Elba. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4389). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
