Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous striated elongated Hematites from Wisconsin, but unlike the majority of the pieces out there, this one is NOT from the famous Montreal Mine, but rather the Penokee Deposit which is also located in the Gogebic Range. This piece for all intents and purposes is visually very similar to the pieces from the Montreal Mine, but the label clearly states its from Penokee, which is significant as I have never seen a confirmed specimen of Hematite from this locality. If you collect midwest mineral, oxides, minerals of the United States or worldwide Hematites, do NOT miss out on this notably rare display specimen. Valued at $750. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12023). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
