Item Description

Hematite is RARE from this historic extinct skarn-type Pb-Zn deposit in Romania. Unusual, lustrous, sharp, hematite crystals have striking stepped-growth faces with subtle magenta iridescence with few sharp prism faces. The crystals rest on a mounded matrix of granular hematite and quartz points. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8353 and acquired from the Cisneros' in 1977 . Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). RARE, unusual old-time hematite from the locale mined prior to World War I, according to Kay's label.
