Item Description

Well crystallized hematite specimens are very rare from the Pedra Preta pit at Brumado. This is a wonderful non-Alpine "Iron Rose" of hematite from this classic district in Brazil. The hexagonal blades on this specimen have excellent, splendent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. The display view is pristine on this very fine thumbnail. Most date to the 1960s or 1970s. This is excellent material and compares very favorably with the style of European Alpine pieces. It is also a rare association piece with the two parallel-growth, lustrous, reddish-brown dravite prisms nicely set on the lower right-hand corner. Ex Josef Vajdak Collection.
