Item Description

An outstanding old-time calcite from the famous Bigrigg area of Cumbria. The dramatically clustered gem nailhead spar calcite crystals, to 3.0 cm, are colorless to having the classic and desirable light hematite tinting. The thin matrix crust is hematite kidney ore. The complex terminations add pizzazz to this high quality piece, that looks good from both sides. The striking frontal view is very nearly pristine with only the most gentle of bruising and you barely notice the few broken crystals on the back. Very fine Bigrigg calcite from the Herb Obodda dealer stock and comes with a Hugh Ford label dating from 1946-57 (although the piece itself would date to the mid to late 1800s). Valued at $1500 and well worth it. Seldom for sale at a bargain, in such style
