Item Description

At first glance, I actually mistook this piece for a Bournonite specimen, as the habit and sheer thickness of the crystals is not what one thinks of when it comes to Hematites from this locality. With that said, some of the most iconic Rutile / Hematite specimens in the world are those from Novo Horizonte. This piece is a wonderful example from the 2008 find featuring notably THICK, sharp, well-formed, bladed silvery-grey crystals with Bournonite-esque "cogwheel" stepped faces along the edges free of matrix. The Hematites feature golden Rutile crystals epitaxially growing on select faces. The piece is crystallized all around, but it's not a true "floater", as there a few points of contact here and there. I have to stress that this style of crystals (especially a near "floater" group like this) is very rarely seen from this locality. If you collect Brazilian minerals, oxides or worldwide Hematites, do not miss out on this attractive, three-dimensional and unusual display specimen from this classic locale. Valued at $1,200 in the inventory.
