Item Description

This is a fine specimen from this cool locality in central Colorado. Cookstove Mountain, also called Stove Mountain, is a little more than one mile NW of the famous St. Peters Dome locality. In the mid 1970's Richard Kosnar and Clarence Coil went digging in this area and found a few interesting specimens similar to those in the pegmatites around Lake George, Colorado. This particular specimen has no Amazonite like Lake George, but it is a wonderful display piece featuring foliated, metallic, silvery "blades" of Hematite which are associated with "stubby" crystals of "Onegite" (Amethyst with Goethite inclusions). The reverse side of the specimen shows and unusual, but very distinct layer of reddish host rock, along with Rich Kosnar's hand-written tag, indicating that it is indeed from Cookstove Mountain. For the size, quality and aesthetics, this piece is a fantastic Hematite association specimen that would fit nicely into any Colorado collection or a worldwide suite. Crystallized specimens like this are few and far between from Colorado. Valued at $500-$600.
