Item Description

One of the VERY few specimens of this material that I have seen. Hemimorphite typically is not found in colorful specimens as most often the species is white/colorless. Blue Hemimorphite is certainly uncommon, and specimens from the Memphis Mine in New Mexico are extremely difficult to obtain. This particular specimen comes from the collection of noted geologist Allen Heyl (Aheylite). The piece comes with Allen's collection label stating that he obtaine the piece in 1986 from an unnamed collector. According to Allen's label, Hydrozincite can be found on the piece along with Zinc-bearing clay, although according to mindat, neither species is reported from ths Memphis Mine. The color of the Hemimorphite is a beautifully vibrant blue hue, and certainly stands out among other blue Hemimorphites that I have seen from other world localities. A great locality specimen for any collector of Hemimorphite or minerals from New Mexico!
