Item Description

A VERY RARE combination from this less well-known extinct California Pb-Cu-Au-Ag-Zn-Mn mine. All three species are known from here, but are extremely rare in combination. This aesthetic and colorful miniature is dominated by the rounded hemimorphite crystal. The large hemi is surrounded by smaller clusters of hemimorphite blades and scattered about are small gem, water-clear, colorless smithsonite. Bright green spiky conichalcite hemispheres and crusts add much color and pizzazz to this rare combination from the Kay Robertson Collection # 6222 and acquired in the early 1970s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Mountain Pass is an unincorporated community near the mine.
