Item Description

This piece came labeled as coming from "Mt. Malfidano" (most likely the Malfidano Mine), but the most likely locality would be the Sa Duchessa Mine in Sardinia, which is world famous for its intense blue Hemimorphites. Perhaps an Italian mineral expert can attest to whether or not this piece is from Malfidano, but we're somewhat skeptical. WIth that said, this is about as intense a blue color as you will see in Hemimorphite from any world locality. It's incredibly rich and glows with color even in indirect lighting. The botryoidal groups formed in layers as you can see on the sides of the piece where it was removed from the pocket wall, and they range from white to black to the intense blue hue. A bit of the black layer can be seen on the surface of the piece, but this is not a sky blue, or even a medium blue, this is an electric DEEP blue tone, very rare seen in the species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6302). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
