Item Description

This is a fantastic association specimen from Santa Eulalia featuring attractive prismatic white (with reddish iron oxide coating) crystals of Hemimorphite measuring up to 2.7 cm long associated with a complex modified white crystal of Calcite measuring 3.2 across on black oxide (Chalcophanite?) matrix. I love the fact that the Hemimorphite crystals are beautifully isolated, which is rare from this locality, as they are often tightly intergrown into groups or clusters. The added Calcite association makes the piece all the more enticing, as it's one of the best pieces I've seen from this locality with Hemimorphite and Calcite together. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. PLEASE NOTE: This piece was labeled as Hemimorphite with FLUORITE, but upon close inspection, you can tell the crystal is actually Calcite, though it's doing a good job of masquerading as Fluorite.
