Item Description

Herbertsmithite (Anarakite) is a rare Cu-Zn halide and is a member of the Atacamite Group. Tiny blue-green crystals richly cover both sides of the thumbnail gossan matrix. Scattered tiny gemmy golden-yellow wulfenite crystals are a nifty and typical accessory to this excellent and uncommon specimen from this obscure Iran porphyry copper mine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 260 and acquired as a gift from the Cisneros' in 1973. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). INTERESTINGLY, the species was not approved by the IMA until 2003, 30 years Kay after obtained the piece!
