Hornblende (classic locale)

Item Description

Fine hornblende crystal specimens are well-known from this famous locale. This is a classic sharp, lustrous, well-striated, jet-black tabular thumbnail prism with albite on one side and both asbestos and albite on the terminations. The former dealer label identifies this as magnesio-hastingsite, a rare member of the Amphibole Group. MINDAT does not list this species for Studsdalen.
