Item Description

The Sweet Home mine is famous for its Rhodochrosite specimens, but it has produced some VERY nice Fluorites as well. For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens. This piece has no Rhodo, but does host a few sharp, lustrous, bladed, dark red-black crystals of Hubnerite up to 1.3 cm associated gemmy, purple crystals of Fluorite plus metallic golden Pyrite, and small yellow Calcite crystals with GEM/gemmy "needle" Quartz on matrix. A nice association specimen from the mine that produced the world's finest quality Rhodochrosites. Certainly a good Hubnerite specimen from the Sweet Home, and pieces from the Sweet Home mine are quickly disappearing from the market. This piece is from one of the early pockets that Rich Kosnar opened when he started mining in 1977.
