Item Description

A classic association specimen from one of the most famous classic Peruvian localities. A sharp, lustrous, prismatic group crystals of Hubnerite are beautifully intergrown with colorless to white gemmy Quartz crystals. Unfortunately one end of the Hubnerite group is contacted, and not all of the Quartz crystals are complete, but there are some small terminations on the thin end of the Hubnerites that you can see with a loupe. Like many pieces from this locality, the Hubnerites show a deep blood-red hue internally when the piece is backlit. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
