Item Description

Hureaulite is a rare and eye-catching manganese phosphate, which was named in 1825 after the type locality, a village in France by the name of Hureaux. Some of, if not the best and most well-known samples are those from the Jocão pegmatite in Brazil with their glowing electric orange-pink color crystals in larger sized crystals (most other Hureaulites are micro crystals from various localities around the world). This piece is only labeled as coming from Conselheiro Pena, but it's likely from the Jocao pegmatite (Cigana claim), and features excellent, sharp, lustrous, translucent, vibrant orange-pink colored monoclinic crystal groups of Hureaulite measuring up to 5 mm associated with dark reddish-brown, lustrous crystal aggregates of Reddingite measuring up to about 4 mm across. Minor dark blue Phosphosiderite is also present on the lower portion of the specimen. No real damage to the Hureaulites, and they look beautiful close up. A very worthwhile specimen of this hard to find material, from arguably the best location for the species in terms of the size and color of the crystals.
