Item Description

Striking, unusually shaped, color-zoned green and yellow, translucent, medium luster, low-angle, hexagonal hydroxylapatite prisms with bipyramidal faces are richly and dramatically scattered on the large and sculptural microcline matrix with a starkly contrasting glassy section of striated, translucent, white albite crystals. The hydroxylapatite crystals reach 1.9 cm. This impressive large cabinet is from the 2005-2006 finds at the Sapo Mine, which produced world-class polychrome "bluecap" tourmalines and fluorapatite specimens. The Sapo Mine probably produced the world's finest examples of hydroxylapatite. See the 2009 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 40, No. 4. A highly representative and rich large example of the species and locale. Seldom on the market today.
