Item Description

Hydroxylapatite is RARE compared to much more common fluorapatite. This highly unusual and uncommon doubly terminated crystal is from the late 1990s finds at this obscure locale. The color-zoned textbook hexagonal crystal has a green core with a bone-white outer section accented with iron oxides. Most unusually, the black blebs scattered on the sides are ilmenite pseudomorphs after rutile crystals. AND only the green interiors fluoresce pink under SW UV light! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12856. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A rare, showy and most unusual combination from this obscure mine.
