Item Description

Bone-white layered botryoids of distinctive hydrozincite comprise this solid sculptural, undulating crust from this well-known extinct Fe-Zn-Pb mine in Portugal. The preferential coating of sparkly microcrystalline plattnerite, lead oxide, is a striking contrast and typical accessory along with the spare coatings of orange-brown iron oxides in recessed areas adds even more character and contrast. Underneath the dome shaped specimen is just as tantalizing. It displays a concave cast-like feature full of vuggy texture. From the broad and important collections of Dick Hauck, founder and owner of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in New Jersey. Classic and very showy combination material from the locale.
