Item Description

Barite specimens from the coal mines of Oskaloosa County, Iowa are extremely rare and are seldom on the market. Amber colored, translucent, barite crystals with scintillating, iridescent, curved, helmet-shaped terminations fill a vug in fractured siltstone matrix. Amber colored calcite crystals are next to the barite. The iridescence is mostly light magenta with a little peacock-green/metallic. Rich and rare combination material from this locale. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection, dating to the 1960s or 70s, and possibly older. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
