Item Description

Auglaize Quarry Fluorites are among the most interesting and desirable found in the US. Sometimes containing up to three generations, this fine, highly-representative, cabinet specimen contains two generations of Fluorites that fill a large, sculptural, Calcite-coated vug. The first generation of Fluorites are the fabulous, iridescent, golden-bronze cubes (tinted by hydrocarbon inclusions) that often come to mind when thinking of Auglaize, and these were followed by gorgeous, gemmy, iridescent-violet cubes to 7 mm. As exposed as this large pocket was, it is not surprising that some of the purple cubes show a small bit of wear, but the showy aesthetics are only slightly affected. The Fluorites, just for good measure, fluoresce deep-purple or brown, and the Calcite a brilliant yellow-white. This fascinating and attractive combination, within a brecciated limestone, is a good example of this American classic.
