Item Description

Colorful, richly iridescent hematite crystals to 9 mm, cover the iron ore matrix on this on this flashy reference example from the ancient iron mines at Rio Marina. Actually, I thought this was only typical iron hematite matrix but Karl Warning here in our office tested it with a magnet and the magnet sticks strongly - indicating that the matrix here is very rich in magnetite. This was known, but such pieces are seldom seen. A RARE COMBINATION in my experience! Ex A.G. Moss and Mervyn Ford Collections.
