Item Description

A dramatic large calcite cave helectite from the famous mines at Charcas. Striking jackstraw-style stacked intergrown columns of pearlescent, flattened, doubly terminated rhombs form a most strange and sculptural piece. The columns resemble saweeth! A surreal 360-degree specimen with the attachment at one end. Modest pink fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5292 and acquired from Sol Shale in the mid to late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Choice, rare highly unusual style old-time Charcas calcite from the 1960s.
