While Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds and Diamonds are the top precious gems traditionally, a lot of people don't realize that Jade is one of the most valuable gems in the world. The very finest stones of natural (untreated) top grade Jade (both in terms of clarity and color) sell for astronomically high prices on the market. Considering that Jade is a "non gem quality" stone, it's remarkable that it commands such a high value, but there are buyers who value Jade above any other stone, and its cultural significance in many Asian countries cannot be discounted. Jade (Jadeite / Nephrite) is often only translucent in clarity and while green is the most commonly associated hue for the material, you can find Jade in a wide range of colors, including colorless material. Here we have a lovely vivid green "Oval" cabochon of Jade with good internal gemminess, but please note that this stone has been treated / filled to help enhance to color and quality. This is a fairly common and accepted practice, so long as the buyer is informed that they are purchasing a treated gem. This stone is a pre-embargo import from many years ago, and would make a great addition to any gem collection as they are not as easy to purchase as they were back then. Keep in mind that mining in Mogok and the surrounding areas seems to have completely come to a standstill, so nothing in coming out of the ground, and the prices are going up for good material from Myanmar in gem markets around the world.
