Item Description

Mineral specimens are VERY RARE from this old, extinct Sn-Ag-Zn deposit mined in the early 20th century. It is now mostly now covered up by tailings from the neighboring Huanuni tin mine (MINDAT). This is a massively heavy specimen of pure jamesonite, with flat-laying lustrous, metallic acicular crystals atop ore, from one of the three famous Vaux Expeditions headed up by Sam Gordon during the 1920s. RARE in such size and richness. There may be other rare species present here, to be identified from thin sections, as much of interest was found in the old deposits here. Mass is 1262 grams or 2.8 pounds. Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Sciences Collection. The numbers match.
