Item Description

Kleinite is a very rare hydrated mercury chloro sulfate that is only found in four places in the world. The type locality is in the Terlingua District of Texas, but the most famous specimens are those from the McDermitt Mine in Nevada. In the early 1990s, there was a pretty impressive discovery of this material, which really bolstered the supply on the market. This piece is a good representative specimen of this incredibly rare and beautiful material featuring orange-yellow colored crystal groups of Kleinite on host rock matrix. You can see a bit of white "Hyalite" Opal - now called Opal-(AN) - which fluoresces a brilliant green hue under SW UV light. If you've ever wanted a piece of this classic material, this is a great opportunity to pick up a nice specimen for your collection. The crystals are best seen under magnification, like most pieces of Kleinite.
